iPhone 12 will be the Best Selling iPhone this Year

Apple iPhone 12 is the World’s top selling 5G smartphone just two weeks after its launch

In October 2020, the Apple iPhone 12 became the highest selling 5G smartphone model in the world. This happens despite the company facing a delayed launch, but only two weeks after its release, it is still able to reach the milestone.

With a global 5G smartphone market share of 16 percent in October 2020, the base iPhone 12 model took the lead. Similarly, the higher-end iPhone 12 Pro from the Cupertino-based giant came second with an 8 percent market share. To put things into perspective, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G, which had only a 4 percent market share showing Apple's dominance, was the third highest selling 5G smartphone during this month.

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro alone accounted for almost a fourth of the total 5G smartphone sales in October, according to a Counterpoint Research report. Notably, for the period of January and October 2020, the iPhone 12 even entered the top 10 best selling list of 5G smartphones. The Apple handset came seventh in the list, which is a significant accomplishment as the device was only available for two weeks and even suffered from stock and inventory problems.

The report states that the large pent-up demand for 5G upgrades was one of the main reasons for great sales for the iPhone 12 lineups, especially for iOS users. In addition, Apple aggressively promoted its device, particularly in the United States, which is its largest market, accounting for over one third of the sales of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro alone. The 2020 iPhone series also made a push for mmWave, which also helped raise the mmWave market from 5% in September to 12% in October. Finally, the report also estimates that its healthy sales figures will be carried forward with a steady momentum to 2021 by the iPhone 12 series.
